Tailwind for Pinterest

Tailwind is one of those tools that I had read about as I researched how to use Pinterest to grow my blog traffic.  While the majority of the chatter was positive, I kind of ignored it. This girl blogs on a budget and I have to be extremely selective with what extras I add to my blogging arsenal.

Curiosity finally got the better of me about 2 months ago. My blog is still only young, but Pinterest had quickly become the number one referer of traffic.  I think if you've used Pinterest before you've heard or experienced first hand the ‘rabbit hole' effect it has.  While the return for effort with Pinterest is pretty high, I really don't have the time to pin every day.  And therein lies the problem, because you get the best results when you pin consistently.

That's where Tailwind came in.  I finally caved and went and had a look at the website. They offer a free month trial, so that's exactly what I did!

Just some of the features

Tailwind is loaded with features – here are just a few that I love:

  • Instantly create the optimal pin schedule based on audience engagement, virality, traffic and more.
  • Effortlessly schedule multiple pins at once with the Chrome Extension and bulk upload.
  • Schedule repins directly from Pinterest.
  • Shape your editorial calendar with simple drag-and-drop control.
  • Track repins, likes, comments, traffic and revenue on scheduled pins over time.

Once you are signed up and have your Pinterest account integrated, you will be shown a schedule of when your Pinterest account gets the most interaction and it gives you a schedule for pinning.  Your job is then to go and start scheduling.  You'll definitely want to grab the Tailwind browser tool which will let you grab content from anywhere you are on the web (not just Pinterest) and schedule it for pinning.

My Personal Results

I searched out bloggers who were getting big results with Pinterest and implemented the strategies they suggested. The two top tips I implemented were to pin at least 30 pins a day – every day and use group boards to grow your network.  Sounds simple enough but if you are doing it manually EVERYDAY it's a major time suck.  So I used Tailwind to automate the whole process.  I spend roughly an hour a week in binge pinning session and schedule out my pins for the week. I use the Instagram integration feature to pin all of my Instagram posts as well which is a fantastic perk as well.

I'm not going to go into all the ins and outs of how to use all the features (I'll save that for further posts) but I'll show you the results I've gotten with my baby blog over the last 4 months since I started blogging with purpose.

April was my first real month of blogging and I only used Pinterest sporadically as I was trying to figure it all out.  May I was using it more consistently and in June I started with Tailwind – I think my traffic results speak for themselves in terms of growth.  With that level of traffic, nearly 80% of it is coming via Pinterest.

With those results, I think you can see why even while blogging on a budget Tailwind has become an indispensable tool for me. Also, please remember these are my personal results, but Tailwind also publishes the Typical Results of Tailwind for Pinterest Members/Typical Results of Tailwind for Instagram Members every year, so you can see what the average growth rate looks like for all of their members.

UPDATE: Using Tailwind has helped me grow my Pinterest account to an average of 2 Million (!!!) monthly viewers and consistently draws traffic to my website – they've also added some great features like Tribes – which I like to call group boards on steroids.  They are a terrific way to find niche content to share on your boards and are particularly great for building a community of bloggers in your niche.

If you blog about your small business – direct sales, boutique or solopreneur services I'd love to invite you to join my tribe! Just follow this link. As a bonus if you are new to Tailwind you'll get a free month of Tailwind Pro thrown in!

The other great thing Tailwind has added is Instagram account management including auto-posting! You'll love this feature.

Why not go and try it for yourself.  I'd love to hear what results you see from growing using Tailwind in your Pinterest Strategy.

  1. i just signed up for tailwind but a little lost on how to use it - I see dozens of articles about it and using it, but yours is very simple and comprehensive - I see that it seems to really help people build huge growth and wonder if it could do the same for me - but still figuring out how to do it - (or maybe procrastinating) :) haven't figured out which yet.. thanks so much! Following along :0 xx Bee

  2. Hey Tammy, I have had the most a-maaaazing results with Tailwind - my stats were pretty stalled at about 2K followers and I wasn't getting much traction. Then I upgraded to a pro account with Tailwind and WOW. My impressions and site traffic went up sharply. And they're still going up. :) If anyone's on the fence about Tailwind, it's totally worth it.

    1. Great Aeriane love to hear how you go - it's so helpful for being consistent because well let's face it - we all have a life outside of social media and Pinterest!

  4. How has it worked out scheduling your IG posts to Pinterest? I love the idea of repurposing my photos, but I didn't want to flood my feed with non-vertical pins. Have you noticed a positive result? Thanks for sharing!

    1. It's super easy Lauren - you schedule them in with the rest of your pins and I have a specific board I put them on called my social media life. There is also a post TO Instagram feature in the works which I cannot wait for!
